ABOUT THE GOOD TYMES BARN
Barns are more than just a building on a
farm. They represent the heart of the American
rural community and the farming industry.
Used as factories, warehouses, and social
gathering places, barns invoke a sense of
tradition, community and security. Even as barns
disappear from the landscape, they still embody
a strong symbol in our heritage.
To remind us of the days gone by and our
rural root, many barns are being preserved. This
is the case with the Good Tymes Barn in Melvin,
After serving our country as a US Army
soldier, traveling the world and teaching our
youth, Connie Smith returned to her roots in
Michigan's thumb area. She picked the small town
of Melvin, also known as Hog Town USA, to
reconnect to the rural life she had come to love
as a child. In her search for just the right
home, she found a barn instead.
"The first time I stepped into the barn,
I could hear people laughing and having a good
time as they tapped their toes to the sound of a
fiddle playing. So, with a faith in God's
direction, and a lot of sweat from hard work, I
have brought the dream alive to share with
Connie spent close to five years refurbishing
the interior of the barn to it's original
appearance and converted it from a working barn
to a social gather place.
She truly feels at home here and as many did
back in the good ol' days, she wishes to share
it with others so they can enjoy it as much as
Whether you need a location for a corporate
event, wedding, reception, shower, or a social gathering, the Good Tymes Barn
is the perfect place for any special occasion!
